Question 3

What kind of media institution might produce and distribute your product and why?

Our film opening begins with a Paramount Pictures title. This company is highly respected in the film industry and therefore draws our audience in more as it is highly respected and holds a good reputation. Furthermore, our main inspiration The Godfather was distributed by Paramount Pictures, therefore showed us that our audience were already attracted to this company, as it created one of the most successful gangster films in history.

For our production company, we created our own called 'Flash Productions'. The word flash links to the pace of our film, and although doesn't give anything about the storyline away, stands out to the audience from the start and makes them wonder what is to come. If we were to choose a real film company to produce our film we would again choose Paramount, as it is highly respected and links to our inspiration. Miramax was also a consideration as they produced 'Pulp Fiction', the inspiration for our female character, therefore seems suitable for our film.

Distributors ensure that the film is seen by as many of our target audience as possible. Therefore are responsible for getting the film to exhibitors, provide the audience with access to the film etc. If we were to choose a real distributor we would choose Paramount Pictures again due to their success in The Godfather and again because of the respect they obtain in the film industry.

In our opening credits we chose our production company, actors, director, producer and editor. This is because during research into gangster film openings I saw this was one of the conventions, therefore followed these conventions in order for our film to fit the gangster genre better.

Music Plan

The beginning of this compilation will work well with out opening because it is elegant and links with Film Noir, as well as it building up tension. It is not too upbeat so it doesn't distract you from what is happening in the scene.
